FRD - short for "Freedom" - was a three-legged battle droid design which was used in the production of various droid models during the Cold War. FRD had primary cannon installed in each of its two manipulators and secondary multi-purpose twin-barrel turret mounted on top of its "head". Secondary turret allowed various weapons to be installed, including extra repeating blaster cannons, grenade launchers or micro-fusion missile launchers. It also had smaller twin-barreled turret installed under its "chin". The construction of the droid allowed to install wide array of additional weapons - including head-mounted laser, auxillary combat systems and protective shileds. The BRD had much in common with the LBR-A01 battle droid
